MACS Participation Statement

Royal Holloway MACS recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.

Names: Gear tool, nut key (if you're Northern)

Who carries one: Leader, seconds

Use: A gear tool is used to remove gear that has been placed in a rock after the leader has finished climbing (or during if they've placed something wrong!)

How to use: Gear tools can be hooked underneath nuts to lever them out or can be used to hit nuts from below (ouch!). If something's really stuck, be inventive!
